Originally constructed as a Farmers Hotel back in 1880. Though for many of Matteson residence and for most of the building existence it was know as Dettmerings tavern. Named after its owner Mr. Heinrich Dettmering. In resent years it housed the old Ciao Ristorant which from our understanding was a very popular Italian restaurant for a number of years. The structure has a rich and wonderful heritage and for us to be part of its most resent transformation we can only account ourselves as fortunate. So from all of us here at Hidden Manna Cafe we offer a sincere thanks to the Village of Matteson and the people that make up this wonderful community for their support.
If you would like more information on the History of the Village of Matteson Illinois. Their is a book by Paul W. Jaenicke called Image of America / Matteson.
Or you can stop by the cafe and listen to some of the long time local residents many which we have had the pleasure to meet.
